Sefton Democracy Club prepares for second meeting

Sefton Democracy Club is preparing for its second meeting following a successful first gathering earlier this month.

More than 20 people attended the inaugural meeting of the club in Maghull Town Hall.

The topic for discussion was the economy and members had the chance to debate and question the issues surrounding the country's financial situation.

Co-founder of the Sefton Democracy Club, Patrick McKinley, said he was delighted by the success of the meeting.

Patrick said: "The main aim of the club is to allow members of the public to get together to discuss the big issues of the day - the big issues that directly affect their lives.

"And that is exactly what we did in the first meeting.

"We had people there of all political persuasions - and some of no political persuasion whatsoever. And that is exactly how the club should be.

"It is an apolitical group which is free to openly discuss politics."

The former economics lecturer said the club is now evolving how members of the group want.

Patrick said: "The members of the Sefton Democracy Club decide themselves how they want the club to develop and what issues we discuss.

"The group is open to new members and all are welcome to attend."

The club meets on the first Thursday of every month at Maghull Town Hall. The next meeting is Thursday, August 5 at 7.30pm.

Representatives from the main political parties have been invited to attend the meeting which will follow a Question Time format.
